I miss Ed’s Easy Diner since they closed down their London shops. When my kids were little and not the ravenous teenagers they are now it was a place we’d stop after walking around London. My son loved the hot dogs, I liked the burgers and we all liked the shakes and ambience. So when I saw they were offering DIY kits that delivered to my area I was excited to try. The Bun: 14/20 A good bun. Incredibly soft on top, yet firm inside. Nothing too exciting taste wise, and perhaps just a little too big for the…
Admittedly it has been a few years since I have been inside a TGIF, but there was a time they set the standard for what has become a more common restaurant format. When I think of TGIF, I think of fajitas, nachos, ribs and drinks, lots of drinks. But I don’t remember going for burgers. So, when I saw they had a DIY kits, I thought if they are good at other American fare, then why not try? Read on to find out how they were. The Bun: 18/20 This is a really, really good hamburger bun. A lovely,…
Thanks to tier 4 restrictions, we ended up not hosting a small Christmas dinner we had planned so had a lot of food to eat ourselves, but I am glad to report that none of it went to waste, although a lot of it went to my waist! So as the calendar ticks to 2021 it’s time for that annual attempt to atone for December’s eating sins. This year I thought I would give some veggie/vegan burgers an honest try and where better to start than Honest Burger. Read on to find out how they were. The Bun: 16/20 We…
I loved the name when I first heard it, but Covid has kept me from making a trip to Spielburger to give them a try. So I was pleasantly surprised when a Spielburger option appeared for Deliveroo, although I was less pleased when the night I tried to order that option was gone. But a few days later my wife noticed the option was back and we gave a few of their burgers a try. This is the review for the very tasty 1216. The Bun: 13/20 Good but not spectacular. Lightly toasted, simple bread taste. Held together very well…
Perk’d Up impressed me with the Bacon Cheeseburger DIY. The first offering of a Christmas Burger I have seen in the UK ever-growing DIY kit list. The preorders started and I think it is safe to say Cheeseburgerme were straight in with a double order for our Canada vs London special review. We chose this ‘special’ as our first Head to Head between reviewers from two sides of the globe to bring our tastebuds to a competitive battle both on paper and the camera! The Bun: 20/20 The bun, a brioche style much appreciated by us sweet toothed Londoners, did…
I loved the concept the first time I heard the name and still do. Keep your menu simple, and do those few items really, really well. Add in a great drink list and an atmosphere that balances comfort with style and you have a great recipe for a good date restaurant. So when I saw DIY kits were back this fall (after dropping off during the summer) I wanted to try. The beef still impresses but the DIY kit not as good as going to the restaurant. Read on to find out why. Burger and Lobster in London missed a…
Burger and Beyond have been exceptionally high scorers on our scorecard with the Bacon Butter Burger. The Bougie Burger has adopted the same core elements in terms of the meat, bun and cheese. It is hard not to appreciate the brilliance of the meat, safety and reliability of the bun but how have the strong spine been supported with a new line up in the condiment and toppings section? The Bun: 17/20 The Bun at Burger and Beyond I found exceptional. A soft, well steamed demi-brioche that delivers a slight sweet injection. On our first review this exact bun scored…
I am not a vegetarian, but our site has the name cheese in it so when we heard the Million Pound Menu winners Baba G’s had a DIY kit for their paneer burger, we had to try. If I wasn’t able to eat meat again, this would be a decent occasional replacement as you the flavours are really incredible, but it didn’t really make me thing I was having a cheeseburger as much as a spicy Indian cheese sandwich. A delicious Indian cheese sandwich but just not burger enough for me to race back for another one The Bun:…
The Crazy Lamb Jalfrezi burger was my least exciting DIY Kit delivery to come through the house this year. Although I just had to try it, I didn’t have the same excitement that I have when I have ordered more familiar offerings. I was completely wrong on judgement about this Burger, it was adventurous, fun and my taste buds were thrown all over the place in an Indian-infused burger DIY. This DIY kit came with a ton of ingredients that just had the mouth salivating reading the instruction card. A combination of Indian-infused ingredients to make a Burger that had me in…
