As the UK enters the second round of lockdown, I thought I’d do a quick search to see what new DIY kids might be out there and Perk’d Up appeared. Always glad to see a new entry and after a tasting night at home, the family declared it a pretty good burger, and I declared it a pretty good price for a DIY kit. Lots of cheese, lots of bacon, but could have used a little more beef. The Bun: 16/20 A really good bun. London clearly seems to prefer the brioche style as more and more of the…

I need to start by stating I am a fan of Honest Burger.  For a few years I worked around the corner from the one near Oxford Circus and had it in regular rotation with Five Guys and Meat Liquor. So at the start of lockdown #2, I was pretty excited to see them offering a Tribute Burger DIY kit and so jumped at the chance to try it at home. The Bun: 16/20 A really good bun, one of the modern brioche style. Simple but elegant, a lovely golden brown. We did get a couple who were very poorly…

In Bluewater, Kent situated open plan directly across the way from Five Guys is GBK. Being so frequent and familiar with Five Guys it made sense to give GBK a shot. The elevated prices of this high street chain combined with waiting 40 mins to eat was a tough pill to swallow. Having to sit and watch the structured and repetitive flips of those Five Guys patties was even harder once GBK served their version of something ‘Mighty’. Before we start on the Mighty Burger I have to make it clear that this Burger was £14.50. It seemed worth it,…

The menu at 7Bone Burger Company was extremely exciting, full of wondrous options from variants of Oriental background to American classics. For some reason things didn’t just “click” but they have a nucleus to work from. For the Burger connoisseur this would not have been the best product submission but for the generations of “Beer, Burger and a Night Out” 7Bone would not disappoint. I had the absolutely stacked Walmart Lucky Dip Meat Burger, boasting a barrage of toppings! 6oz Beef Patty, Smoked Beef Brisket, Griddled Wiener, Coca Cola BBQ Sauce, Tobacco Crispy Onions, American Mustard and American Cheese. The…

Instagram can really distort reality when you see a Burger oozing with beef juice topped with a sesame seed nicely toasted shimmering bun! Shoreditch is fast becoming my proverbial Mecca for a great Burger with so many establishments unwittingly competing for my own personal Burger Crown The Bun: 5/20 I have no idea what this Bun was about. Quite simply, was one of the worst buns for this Burger. I thought at first that it had not been toasted for long enough due to it’s hardened, unforgiving texture. It was a terrible start for LeBun, I spent a good 60…

Being one of the UK’s larger Burger chains I was sceptical about how good Honest Burgers would be. Having been to Byron and Patty and Bun, competitors in their own right, I figured Honest would just be another run of the mill version of a Burger. How wrong I was. The balance of this Burger has only been rivalled by Burger and Beyond and the Tribute Burger deserves some serious recognition as one of the best Burgers in the UK. The Bun: 18/20 The only reason that this Bun has been scored down just slightly is because it did start…

I was über excited to receive the Dirty Bones Mac Daddy kit having ordered on Wednesday for the Saturday delivery slot. Delivery was prompt at 2pm on a Saturday, perfect timing for an early evening dinner. The box was pretty well presented but, having been to Dirty Bones before, I did expect a little bit of a quirky, cool box of goodies with a bit of brand identity. Dirty Bones had actually advertised that each box bought this week would be sent out with a couple of free beers as a thank you, but nope, just the box of Burgers…

The drive to Rochester was made worth it by a delightful Burger. Having been enticed by Chuck and Blade’s well managed Instagram page I had to go and try the Big Charlie and it did not disappoint. Would I head back there again? Yes. The Burger was beautifully constructed and the Candied Bacon and Sweet Bacon Jam added another dimension. The Bun: 20/20 Reminiscent of Burger and Beyond’s Demi brioche this was the closest thing I have had to it. The shine was impeccable and it held particularly well against the candied moisture of the bacon, the Sweet Bacon Jam…

Lets with start from the outside in. I think this has to be the new gold standard for burger buns for me. They were wonderfully fresh and smelled delicious when I opened the package. So fresh that they were soft enough to squeeze, but firm enough to bounce back. Burger and Beyond have another level of DIY kit, could they be the best burgers in London? The Bun: 20/20 Let’s with start from the outside in. I think this has to be the new gold standard for burger buns for me. They were wonderfully fresh and smelled delicious when I…
