It was a family day out to Dip & Flip, secret covert operation to get Dip & Flip on the review cards as we have yet to have ‘officially’ reviewed a burger of theirs. The family train journey to Wimbledon with 2 children climbing on chairs and evading the necessary masks as us adults should be wearing. Question is, whether or not my 5-year abandonment of trains was actually worth it for Dip & Flip’s Bacon Double Cheeseburger… The Bun: 18/20 The soft brioche bun did particularly well to hold up against the sheer weight of this stack. Honestly, this burger…

Now that the world is getting back to normal, I am getting more opportunities for lunch and dinner meetings again, and sometimes I can work a burger I want to try into those meetings. Last week, however, I was meeting a former colleague for dinner in the burger haven of Shoreditch near a conference he was attending and we were actually heading for Peruvian food when he decided he wanted a steak instead. So that gave me a chance to pop into the steakhouse chain Blacklock and try their no-longer-secret burger for the first time. Read on to see how…

Eager to try this restaurant after finding them online I decided to try an extra Burger this weekend. A little off scope and a little out of my proverbial jurisdiction down in Brighton, Bokshop was a serendipitous wild card due to my essential travel today. The creative menu looked outrageous at first sight, Burgers made with Satay Sauce, Burgers made with Asian infused spices, and all based around free-range chicken. The wild card was firstly due to only offering Chicken and secondly being located in Brighton and not technically within my remit for Burger reviewing. I had to give this…

Over the last year, we have reviewed most of the burger chains around London.  We still have a few on our wish list but this month I wanted to get to at least one independent burger restaurant as finding that “diamond in the rough” is the secret wish we all have as reviewers.  Last week I had to run an errand in South Kensington and a quick map check turned up Jimmy’s Grill with an impressive 4.7 Google review score which made it the tops in the area.  Read on to see if that score was justified on our visit……

Having not been in and around London for a period of time the options for reviewing a Burger within a commutable distance without burning in the car in 29 degree heat, was a head-scratcher. Spielburger has been on my own personal radar after reading the review by one of the Cheeseburgerme staff. He reviewed the 1216 and the Classic, from which, the former had a very respectable review. So, after conferring this evening, the target was the Philly Cheesesteak. In popular demand to the point of being sold out many a night, it seemed a prime opportunity to get a…

Around the office, I am the one who normally gives out burger advice. However, that changed a few years ago when the first MeatLiquor opened and some of the IT guys were coming back from Friday lunch in a “grog fog” raving about the cheeseburger they had just had. It was a regular stop until lockdown hit. MeatLiquor did some DIY but sadly not for their beef burgers, so I was very happy to get back in for a Dead Hippy Burger last week. Read on to see how it was… The Bun: 18/20 A simple and effective bun, although…

It was a birthday celebration and nostalgic North American tastebuds that brought us to Wendy’s Burger in Reading. Wendy’s actually were in the UK previously before closing all of their UK branches in 2001 I learned on a little research before attending. A new proposal this year has stated that Wendy’s plan to open 400 branches in the UK and so a taste of the infamous square patties quite excited me! Read on to find out how it went… The Bun: 17/20 I really liked Wendy’s bun. Soft brioche, with a particular sweetness that I enjoyed. It held well tasted good and…

Eight years ago, I willingly stood in the long lines in Covent Garden to try Five Guys when it first came to the UK.  Friends in North America had highly recommended it and it was worth the wait.  I hoped that maybe we would end up with a couple of dozen franchises across the country, but the UK has taken to it and at last check they were at 113.  But as they didn’t do DIY, lockdowns caused this review to be a year in waiting.  Read on to see if this was worth the wait… The Bun: 18/20 A…

I was excited to come around the corner weekend and spot a Byron when we were trying to find a spot for lunch. I hadn’t had their signature Byron burger for a year and a half (although I did pop into one last month to try out the Dribble they had on for the Euros). It was nice to be in a busy restaurant again, or so I thought. Read on to see how the burger was… The Bun: 16/20 They have a nice golden brioche, and have done a good job of matching their new larger patties to the…
