It was a birthday celebration and nostalgic North American tastebuds that brought us to Wendy’s Burger in Reading. Wendy’s actually were in the UK previously before closing all of their UK branches in 2001 I learned on a little research before attending. A new proposal this year has stated that Wendy’s plan to open 400 branches in the UK and so a taste of the infamous square patties quite excited me! Read on to find out how it went… The Bun: 17/20 I really liked Wendy’s bun. Soft brioche, with a particular sweetness that I enjoyed. It held well tasted good and…

Eight years ago, I willingly stood in the long lines in Covent Garden to try Five Guys when it first came to the UK.  Friends in North America had highly recommended it and it was worth the wait.  I hoped that maybe we would end up with a couple of dozen franchises across the country, but the UK has taken to it and at last check they were at 113.  But as they didn’t do DIY, lockdowns caused this review to be a year in waiting.  Read on to see if this was worth the wait… The Bun: 18/20 A…

I was excited to come around the corner weekend and spot a Byron when we were trying to find a spot for lunch. I hadn’t had their signature Byron burger for a year and a half (although I did pop into one last month to try out the Dribble they had on for the Euros). It was nice to be in a busy restaurant again, or so I thought. Read on to see how the burger was… The Bun: 16/20 They have a nice golden brioche, and have done a good job of matching their new larger patties to the…

Hidden away by Kingston University inside the middle of a row of houses is Farm Fresh Burgers. Having driven past the restaurant multiple times I have probably overlooked them as a potential review spot for Cheeseburgerme. Having made the conscious effort today to try a restaurant in Kingston Google threw up Farm Fresh into the mix. I chose the American Burger, seemed quite fitting given the review of Honest’s Tribute scoring so highly and this being an almost identical burger. Read on to see how it went… The Bun: 16/20 A pretty good bun here at Farm Fresh. On first…

Just over a year ago, we kicked off our DIY reviews with the very impressive Bacon Butter Burger Kit from Burger and Beyond so we thought we would circle back 50+ reviews later and see how Burger and Beyond compares now. When we saw they had a Brown Sugar Bacon edition, we knew we had to try. Read on to find out how it did… The Bun: 19/20 A year ago we wrote that this this was the new gold standard for burger buns and it still holds true, although we had a couple that arrived a little squished…

Nearly 15 years ago, I had my first lunch in London at the Gaucho near Piccadilly Circus, and I have considered it a great spot for a steak ever since. However, I had not tried their burger and so when I so when I spotted them offering a cheeseburger DIY kit, I felt I had to try. The Bun: 14/20 A pretty good brioche style bun that came individually wrapped, but unsliced.  They were a tad on the hard side, and the instructions suggested an optional toasting that did little to soften the bun at all.  Flavour was good, but…

When I first starting working in London a little over a decade ago, I mentioned to a colleague that I was yet to find a great cheeseburger in the UK and he took me to a nearby Byron that very day and changed my mind. When I saw they had a special burger on for the Euros, I made arrangements to pop into the city for some meetings last week and take on “the Dribble”. Read on to see how it was… The Bun: 16/20 Byron has always had a good bun, the sort of brioche that has become a…

TGI Fridays did a number on us with 63rd & 1st. I have not been a fan of TGI Fridays since a random Friday evening trying to wipe BBQ sauce from a pretty decent rack of ribs and watching a chair fly past my line of sight forcing me to poke myself in the eye with a rib. Oh how the memories come flooding back. I swore I would never again walk into an establishment that seemed more geared toward fuelling the clubbers with Del’ Boy looking Cocktails than the quality of the ambience or food. 63rd & 1st immediately…

A birthday celebration meant that I was treated to a Poor Boy’s by a friend. Having been to Poor Boy’s a few times and never been disappointed I was excited to do a special review on one of their fantastic Po Boy’s. The only consideration I had about the delivery of the Po Boy was how it would travel on a delivery. Read on to find out how it went… The Bun: 18/20 Shiny, soft and perfect size to stack in a mound of components the Cochon Po Boy came harnessed by a brilliant brioche. For me, the bun at…
