Last time you saw a Five Guys Burger advert?!

You may not be aware of it, but we live in a world riddled with advertisements. From mobile game promos appearing every few minutes on YouTube to the jarring Spotify sponsor breaks, promotions and commercials are a staple of today’s marketing-centric world. In fact, many marketers claim that the advertising industry is one of the largest of its kind in the world. So why is a Five Guys Burger one that we just know about?

Five Guys is the quintessential underdog, with no flashy ads or endorsements. It started as one family-run business and has since transformed into hundreds of franchises worldwide. But how do they do it? The simplicity of Five Guys lies in their food. They don’t sell burgers or fries — they sell hamburgers and French fries. Under a red and white striped sign, Five Guys serves up over 250 varieties of burgers and free toppings to go along with them. To top it all off, its fries never touch heat lamps or microwaves — they’re always fresh out of the fryer and salted to perfection. …And these are just a few things that set Five Guys apart from the rest. Have you ever thought about how far some fast-food chains will go to get your attention? McDonald’s (via YouTube) spends billions on marketing alone every year, but haven’t you noticed that similar marketing ideas can be found across many restaurants? How about the countless Facebook fan pages for fast-food restaurants?

According to the Thrillist, Five Guys is known for many things—its secret menu, a handful of peanuts at every location, and is a good place to grab a burger. However, unlike most burger-slinging giants, Five Guys prefers staying off the airwaves and away from the mainstream marketing methods of ads. How exactly can a company be so popular without high-value celebs and professional athletes touting their hefty hamburgers or jingles proclaiming the almighty goodness of free peanuts?

One thing is for certain. The quality at Five Guys is one of the reasons that thousands of us Londoners nick a cheeky Five Guys Burger at lunchtime. For sure, our review section shows how much we loved our version of a Five Guys burger. If you are anything like us, lunchtime can sometimes turn into a double helping as you finish in the office and before you start that underground commute, slip in for one more… or maybe that’s just Fridays!!
